Tonye Pollyn

Fascinated by traditional African wood carvings,  Tonye Pollyn replicates the etchings, cracks and grooves found on a carved wood to his paintings.

Saturated in vivid colour, his paintings eloquently reveals the contemporaneity and undeniably compelling narratives associated with the human form.

His subjects have an appealing mien reflecting a magnetic narrative that invites the viewer into the world of 'the other'.

He uses his work as a tool in which he investigates the body to find relevant answers to isolation, consciousness, and human relationships.

Pollyn's Art, animated by a keen sense of observation, illustrates an interest in balancing a sense of formality and a remarkable level of intimacy with his subjects.

His paintings offer the chance to observe the experiences and vibrancy coded in gestures and poses.

Pollyn studied Fine Art and Design at the University of Port Harcourt and graduated with a B.A in 2011.

He has featured in several exhibitions and is widely collected.
